Pre-Academy Centre Review - Week 3

October 17, 2018

Pre-Academy Centre Review

Week Commencing: Monday 8th October 2018

Learning Block: Ball Mastery

Session Focus: 1 v 1 Games

Our Ball Mastery block continued with a very important week of 1v1 games for our Pre-Academy group as we continued our learning & the variety of ways to beat a defender in a 1v1 situation. The ability to beat a player in a variety of situations is extremely important to players development & our players will experience more 1v1 focused sessions over the course of the programme.

WHAT: Through the first two weeks of Ball Mastery, our focuses were centered on *how* we could beat a player and could we dribble like Ronaldo, Hazard & Messi. Our 1v1 games allowed for continuous learning without being prompted by our team as we allowed our players to make the decision for themselves, can I dribble like Ronaldo, Hazard or Messi?

HOW: The 'end goal' of the successful dribble is important for players to understand - 'when I take this player on, what's next? - another dribble, a pass, or a shot? Within our games, each round would be focused on that 'end goal' so one round a player could score a point through another dribble through a goal, one round could score a point via a pass through a goal whilst the final round was scored via a shot through one of the goals.

WHY: The more 1v1 situations we place our players in, the better. It's such an important experience for young players as many game related situations occur & it's important for us to prepare our players for this as much as possible.

Key Messages:

- When the defender is coming to tackle, can I make my choice to dribble as quickly as possible? Am I using strength, speed or skills?

- When do I protect the ball, and when do I attack available space forwards?

- I'm not going to afraid to try new skills and/or turns to beat the defender, if it doesn't work I'm going to try again!

Key messages will be used for parents to remind their children of our sessions each week, and it'll be a great idea to remind your son/daughter of these messages before the next session to continue the learning process.

Well done to our Players of the Week below who stood out within their groups. Next week, we have Ball Control & ABC Challenges!

If your son/daughter is interested in experiencing our Pre-Academy Centre in Bracknell or Ascot, we offer a free two-week trial for all new players. To receive a Welcome Pack, please email info@e-p-c.co.uk.
