Academy Centre Review
Session Date: Monday 5th November 2018
Learning Block: Ball Mastery
Session Focus: Football Tennis Tournament
Week 6 meant the end of our first learning block for our 18/19 Academy Centre & what better way to finish than a competitive Football Tennis tournament!!
WHAT: Each group played a Football Tennis tournament, either in pairs or as an individual, and won points for each game they won against other players within their group - at the end of the session, the individual/pair with the most points was crowned Football Tennis Champion!!
HOW: The rules for each group would have differed depending on age - for example, our U7s & U8s groups would be allowed more bounces & touches when returning the ball than our U10 & U11 groups. For those who don't know the rules here's a basic guide: -
- Can play 1v1, 2v2, 3v3 etc
- Setup exactly like Tennis
- When receiving the ball, you are allowed 1, 2 or 3 bounces dependent on group.
- You can return first time or have 1, 2 or 3 touches before returning the ball.
- The winner of the point gets to serve the next point.
WHY: Ball Control is so important to the technical foundations of our players & playing in an enjoyable, competitive game like Football Tennis challenges players to react & think quickly before returning the ball - this allows them to use different parts of the body to control & different combinations to receive a pass.
Well done to our Players of the Week below who stood out within their groups.
We move into our 2nd learning block of the programme tonight as we enter 'Intelligent Defending' and a session of 'Defending 1v1s' - your child will be introduced to a new coach for the upcoming block.
