Pre-Academy Centre Review - Week 1&2

October 8, 2018

Pre-Academy Centre Review

Week Commencing: Monday 1st October 2018

Learning Block: Ball Mastery

Session Focus: How can I use my moves in a game to beat a player?

It's going to be a hugely positive year for our Pre-Academy Centre if our first 2 weeks are anything to go by! This year we are delivering two programmes in partnership with Bracknell Town FC & Berks County FC and we can't wait to see the level of progression from each child over the next 10 months. It's important for all Pre-Academy children to be introduced to our PDP (Player Development Programme) syllabus as early as possible to ensure we have development & enjoyment at the top of our priorities, our Pre-Academy syllabus links closely to our Academy Centre syllabus but with a much more diluted learning focus.

WHAT: Over the past 2 weeks our sessions have been centered around 1v1s & how we can beat a 1v1 player in a match situation. As you'll see regularly within the programme, we will always try & liken a learning point to a well-known footballer so we are educating what player strengths are from a young age. This week, we have focused on Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo & Eden Hazard.

HOW: We tend to coach 1v1s in a variety of ways as attempting to beat a defender in a 1v1 can change from scenario to scenario - the most productive way of realism is where both players will defend a goal each with no GKs, giving them the option of scoring once they've taken on the defender. We also play 1v1s in a 'Chaos' environment where more than one game is happening on the same pitch, this develops awareness of where the available space & players are whilst in possession of the ball.

WHY: Players experience a 1v1 situation many times over the course of a game, and whether its defending or attacking a 1v1, it's important players are experienced in this area of their game from a young age. This will help them learn a variety of ways to beat an opponent & what key areas of their body they can use to do this successfully. As always, failure is important to how children learn, so when they can't beat a defender it's good for them to adopt a positive mindset to ensure they think of an alternative way next time.

Key Messages:

- Using the 3 S's to beat a player - Messi = Skills, Ronaldo = Strength, Hazard = Speed.

- How do I find available spaces to dribble? = Look

- If I'm under pressure from a defender what can I do with my ball? = Protect, Shield & Hide

- What turns can I use to move away from a defender? = Inside, Outside & Sole

Key messages will be used for parents to remind their children of our sessions each week, and it'll be a great idea to remind your son/daughter of these messages before the next session to continue the learning process.

Well done to our Players of the Week below who stood out within their groups. Next week, we are continuing with 1v1s as we play a 1v1 tournament!

If your son/daughter is interested in experiencing our Pre-Academy Centre in Bracknell or Ascot, we offer a free two-week trial for all new players. To receive a Welcome Pack, please email info@e-p-c.co.uk.
