SCHOOL SPORTS PARTNERSHIP – HALF TERM HIGHS!
Today we talk about what has been a superb half-term of PE and Sport in our PE schools across Bracknell Forest and Reading, with a little insight into what we have been teaching and our ‘HALF TERM HIGHS!!!!’.
As a part of our School Sports Partnership, EPC now deliver PE in 7 schools across Berkshire! See below a little summary on each of them as we end a successful half-term!
Let’s start with out latest addition, FOX HILL!!!!
A brand-new partnership between EPC and Fox Hill began at the beginning of the term, with coach Dan (Aka Mr Sleet) beginning his new role teaching PE across the school as well as having input on the coordination of PE in the school (exciting!!).
Dan has been teaching the children basketball this term, with a particular focus on the fundamental core skills in KS1 and match play scenarios and key skills for KS2… ending the half term with a week of fun-filled tournaments! Dan has also been delivering Gymnastics, Multi-Sports and Netball after-school!
Dan’s Half-Term High… “I am delighted at how welcome the children and staff across the school have made me feel. But most importantly, seeing the children respond to the coaching and working at 100% every lesson!”
Great Hollands Primary School..
We now look at our longest-serving PE school, the Mighty Great Hollands!!
Despite this being our longest PE partnership, it has still been a brand-new start, with coach Matt (AKA Mr Nower) starting his role as PE coach at Great Hollands Primary.
Matt has been coaching Hockey across the school this half term and has been incredibly impressed with the development and hard work from all the children. In particular the KS1 children, who have mastered the tricky art of ball control and are now able to take part in match-based games!
Matt’s Half-Term High…”It’s always slightly nerve wracking starting at a new school… but the children and staff have made me feel welcome and a part of the school from DAY! The children’s development has been superb in all areas of their Hockey!”
Battle Primary Academy
Time for our fantastic school in Reading… Battle Primary School.
Coach Jake has had a busy start to the year at Battle, but most importantly and enjoyable one!
The children have been learning Tag Rugby and Football across the school, as well as taking part in daily lunch-clubs, such as: Benchball, Cricket, Dodgeball. The children have particularly developed in their Tag Rugby, with the children working hard on their defensively lines and body movements with the ball!
Jake Half-Term High... “For me it has to be the clear improvement in the children’s tactical understanding of Tag Rugby. The improvement is down to their application and willingness to learn in every PE lesson!”
Hatch Ride Primary School
It’s been a fantastic start to the year at Hatch Ride, with coach Lee (AKA Mr Simpson) delivering PE across all years of the school.
The focus this term has been on Netball, with Lee working on passing and receiving, shooting and intelligent defending. The children ended the half term with match play and a variety of tournaments across the school!
Lee’s Half Term High… “Thoroughly enjoyed wtching the children develop their tactical awareness week by week and seeing how they put all earning together into the Week 5 tournaments!”
St Michael’s CofE Easthampstead
Another one of our longer partnership which continues to blossom! EPC are now the exclusive PE coaches at the school which coaches Rob (AKA Mr McBride) and Aaron (AKA Mr Sheikh… pronounced Shake!) delivering a variety of Hockey, Benchball, Dodgeball and some PE theory focusing on the importance of a healthy and active lifestyle! Amy (Miss Lewis) has also been delivering Dance to KS1… It’s fair to say, it’s been a busy 5 weeks!!!
The children in Year 5/6 have also been working with Amy on a weekly basis preparing for the upcoming Bracknell Forest Gymnastics tournament! Amy and the team will be heading into the event keen to show of their incredible skills and drilled routines!
Rob’s Half-Term High…”It has to be the Year 6 Benchball tournament on week 3! The children all were so engaged and fought to the bitter end to try and win! But most impressively, ALL children cheered and congratulated the winning team at the end!”
Sandy Lane Primary School
2018 couldn’t have started any better at Sandy Lane with coaches Lee and Rob working on Basketball and Indoor Athletics in PE and delivering an after school club every-day for children across the school.
The children have developed immensely in all aspects of their Basketball and can now freely compete in competitive match play! In the Indoor Athletics sessions, the children have been working hard on 6 of the events: Long Jump, Triple Long Jump, Javelin Throw, Vertical Jump, Chest Push and Speed Bounce… the talent at Sandy Lane has truly been in full force!
Lee’s Half-Term High… “It has to be the Kurling competition!! I had the privilege of taking 4 very talented children to the event and they all represented the school to perfection. The children were a credit to themselves and the school!”
Winkfield St Mary’s CofE
We finish of our ‘Half-Term Highs’ round-up with the wonderful Winkfield St Mary’s.
Coach Joe (AKA Mr Gater) has been working with the talented children on their Indoor Athletics. In the same format as Sandy Lane, Joe has been working with the children in a carousel format, focusing on the 6 (mentioned above) field events, as well as working on field sessions, ensuring the children are all ready for summer sports day events!
Joe’s Half-Term High… “The development in the children’s relay racing has been truly remarkable! Week 1, the children were all (they wont mind me saying!) slightly rusty with their technique, in particular handing over the baton, but through hard work and commitment, the children have truly reached a high standard in their racing!”
Enjoy your half term!
Thanks all to the wonderful children for their hard work and all parent/carers and teaching staff for all your support this term! The EPC team would like to wish you all a fantastic half term!!!
